uggh, car is backfiring again.

I changed the fuel filter and ran some seafoam through it a few weeks ago and the backfire (through the intake) went away but i got gas at a different station than usual two days ago and almost immediately it came back:bang:
Guess its time for more seafoam.
anyone think of what else it might be, it seems like a fuel problem but i thought that a backfire through the intake was a timeing problem but my timeing is at 12, checked it about a month ago.

Maybe an injector is bein told to stay open a lil longer than it should.

(I actually have no idea....just a stab in the dark, hope it helps!)

You say your timing is set at 12?, but how does your balancer look? It's possible the outer ring may have slipped a little and 12? is actually more.

thats what we were thinking but it looked good. the problem only came back after i had got gas somewhere other than my regular place. and the new place has a rep for selling the foul fuel.

How about codes? Any come up for EGR? That can be a cause for detonation/backfiring, too.

not in a while they havent, i had some but changed the thing on the pass strut tower and the thing on the back of the egr that bolts to the back of the TB (cant for the life of me think of the names of these things) and the codes went away. the only one i get now is the nuteral/clutch safety switch, car use to be a five speed but its auto now so no clutch for having switch for safety, er, yeh that.
put a can of heat and some new gas in it, im hopeing that fixes it. darn it, the only way to know is to drive it.

ok talked to a guy that works at the station today, told me they get the octaine up from 87 to 89 by adding E85. so me and my boss is talking and he said that e-85 draws moisture like crazy. so's im betting that i got a big half tank thats got alot of water in it. Its acting better now that the heat and the non-alcohol 92 oct. is in the tank.

Adding E-85 huh? Them motha effers! That might explain why at certain stations that i get gas from will make my car run leaner than others. I have been checking with a dual channel wideband, and have seen almost a 1/2 a point in my AFR on both sides of the motor.

if the pump is marked that its 10% blended then thats how they get the octaine up. ive got a station close by that sells 92 non-ethonl gas, thats the only thing going in my car from now on.
