fuel filler neck on a 01
changed one this past weekend. not to bad, watch how you take the grommet out (might as well change it too) and i dont car what they say you will have to drop the tank to do it! for some reason ford zip tied (yep factory zip ties on a filler neck) some plastic around the neck so it can collect dirt and rust out, how nice of them to do that for me!
![]() tools we needed are a 15T for the fuel door and rubber bumpers, a 8mm (i used a 5/16th) for the bolts on the neck in the trunk and behind the fuel door and a 1/2 on a long ext. for the tank bolts, and a little lube for the grommet. easy peasy. took us about two hours with a small pee break. |

Yeah, it's a pain in the ass. I've had the tank out of my 95, on three separate occasions now. I've bathed in gas each time, since it's always when the tank is more than half-full.
The tank is remarkably easy to take in/out once it's empty, but damn it sucks when it's full.

heres a question for ya, is there a front and a back to that grommet? ours had a "tit" on one side (the thin side) and the install pic showed the tit being on the outside but the pic also showed the outside being the thick side, like our tit was on the wrong side.
of course my father in law started in with the whole you put it in backwards after i already did it, not that i think it matters. |

The grommet that I replaced would've been too big to pass the wrong side through the hole on the tank. It was kinda cone shaped on one end, to pass through the hole and be secure in the opening.
