Clutch Quadrant

Anyone ever buy a UPR clutch quadrant and have any problems with it rubbing on the cable? mine just cut threw my cable UPR told me to pull it off and file down the edges and they are sending me another cable for free. I do all my adjusting at the firewall so im thinking about just putting the stock plastic one back on if i can find one.

Hmm... I can't say that I've ever heard of a quadrant rubbing through a cable. Was it a factory, or UPR cable? I could see it stretching and breaking, with where the cable passes over the quadrant being a friction point and breaking the overstretched cable.

I'm still running the factory plastic quadrant, since I picked up my 95 back in 99, so I'm about out of ideas. Everything I've ever read says that the factory cables are much better than aftermarket though.

I've always been happy with my plastic factory one. I tend to use fairly soft clutches, so I don't think I'm at any bigger risk for it breaking. If it does, I'll have my brother make me one out of something like aluminum, since he's a machinist.

I've got the UPR triple pick-up and had their adj. cable. The cable lasted me about 1500 miles and snapped. I've got an adj. Steeda on it now and everything seems to work ok. The quad looks to be a good piece, but I've never heard anything good about UPR cables.

Some info i have learned since i've been modding and repairing mustangs. Triple hook quadrants are a god send. Steeda cables are trash, tried twice with adjustable cables and always break the loom surrounding the cable about 10'' away from firewall adjuster. Had one cable try to eat itself on the adjuster, reshimmed the quadrant with 3/8'' washers and never have had a problem. Dont use the plastic quadrants! The factory ford clutch cable will last damn near forever. I recommend a click style firewall adjuster as my steeda has been caught trying to back off my adjustment.

Yeah your right about the steeda cable.. I had that on my 01 and it frayed and I ended up using a ford one with the steeda quad
