Magic Jack
Ever seen the commercials? They work very well! I have one and have used it both as a land line for voice, but also for faxing and it worked great. It worked so well that I got a second one for my girlfriend's family in Vietnam, so they can call each other internationally and have it basically be a local call. She used to buy calling cards at like $50 a pop every week. Now she can call a local 630 area code and talk to her mom halfway around the world, and it sounds just like a normal, local call! That's pretty sweet, IMO.

Ha, negatory on the pics. She'd kill me if I posted them up. The Magic Jack had a bad reputation a few years back, so it's entirely possible that he had one back when that was going on. After having one, I swear I'm going to have it as my landline and not have a phone bill once I buy a house.

HA! What are cats? I'm the owner of a 1995 Mustang. OBD1, my friend!
![]() My Grand Cherokee, on the other hand, still has to take emissions. That's just a simple plug into the data port and I'm on my way in 2 minutes.

Bumping this back up. Discovered in the Apple Store that they now have a Magic Jack app for my iPhone. Now I basically have a two-line phone, but even better, I can turn off my cellular functions and still use the phone over Wi-Fi with the Magic Jack phone number. Now I should pick up one of the Magic Jack Pluses and see how well those work. You don't need to leave a PC turned on 24/7 with those. You only need a PC for the initial setup, and then you have a USB AC adapter and it works off your broadband connection as a stand-alone device. They even allow you to port your home phone line to it now (or an existing Magic Jack number). $20 a year for home phone just got even better, IMO!
